GOHELP MONGOLIA CHARITY RALLY.

On 10 July 2010 at 10.00am, 40 teams set off on this ambitious journey from Woburn Safari Park, near Milton Keynes, on the official launch of the 2010 Mongolia Charity Rally. The journey entails a 10,000 mile drive taking six weeks and gruelling terrain which includes five mountain ranges, two deserts and the vast Eurasian steppes along the way, finally ending at Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar. The Mongolia Charity Rally is co-ordinated by Go Help, a UK registered charity, run entirely by volunteers.

The 2010 Mongolia Charity Rally’s aim of raising £100,000 for a variety of worthy causes in Mongolia is well on target with £50,000 already raised so far. This year funds will be used to assist vulnerable nomadic herding families who have lost much or all of their livestock as a result of last Winter’s severe weather which affected much of Mongolia.

Since the first Mongolia Charity Rally in 2008, Go Help has raised over £250,000 for good causes in Mongolia. Past and current projects include a new centre for street children and a Rehabilitation and Education Centre for Children with disabilities. To date, over 50 vehicles including fully fitted emergency ambulances have been donated.

Notes:

1. The 2010 Mongolia Charity Rally involves teams driving from Central London to the Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar by any route possible The length of the drive is approximately 10,000 miles, and takes around six weeks. Teams are required to raise a minimum of £1,500 to support Go Help projects in Mongolia, but can also raise funds for a second charity of their choice if they wish. All vehicles that make it to the finishing line are auctioned to raise money for Go Help projects or are donated to suitable hospitals, orphanages, NGOs and other similar organisations.

2. The Mongolia Charity Rally’s fundraising focus for 2010 is Dzud Relief, supporting vulnerable nomadic herding families who have lost their only source of income through exceptionally severe winter weather (or ‘dzud’). The 2009-10 dzud killed 1.7 million head of livestock and left tens of thousands of families facing food shortages. The first Mongolia Charity Rally took place in 2008. Since then over £250,000 has been raised to date, and over 50 vehicles donated to worthy causes in Mongolia.

3. Go Help has worked particularly closely with Save the Children, supporting major project including the National Rehabilitation and Education Centre for Children with Disabilities in Ulaanbaatar in 2008 and a Kazakh-language education programme for minority children in the far west of Mongolia in 2009. In April 2010, Go Help donated £50,000 to Save the Children to provide support to vulnerable children through Save the Children’s drop in centre for street children.

4. Go Help is a UK charity which has as its core mission raising funds from charity events, specifically charity rallies. In addition to the Mongolia Charity Rally, Go Help also manages the Roof of the World rally, and the Mad Tuk Tuk Challenge was launched in April 2010. Go Help is the only operator of non-profit making charity rallies in the UK, and all the money raised by the teams goes directly to the chosen charities.

APRIL FOOLS DAY MARKS LAUNCH OF CAMBODIAN TUK TUK
CHALLENGE - THE ULTIMATE CHARITY TRAVEL ADVENTURE
SIEM REAP, Cambodia – Eight British teams are lined up on the
starting grid of the inaugural Cambodian Tuk Tuk Challenge in Siem
Reap, Cambodia, preparing to overcome 500 miles of dirt roads,
jungles, pot-holes and paddy fields to raise money for UK registered
charity Go Help, which engages the public in awesome adventures
to support charitable projects in the destination country of its
events.

The charity chariots will hit the road at daybreak on April Fools day
and - with a bit of luck and a lot of sweat - will roll across the finish
line on Saturday, 10th April 2010, having overcome some of the
world’s most dangerous roads in their motorised rickshaws.
The Cambodian rickshaws themselves are simply mopeds rigged up
to tow a sofa-bed on wheels. Teams have “pimped up” their Tuk
Tuks with designs ranging from a gin and tonic glass to the O.K.
Corral. After being put together by local Cambodian mechanics,
teams will take to the road and once the Challenge is conquered,
these charity chariots will be used to support a driving school and
teach local Cambodian women to become Tuk Tuk taxi drivers, thus
providing them with new avenues to earn a living wage.

Welfare Programs, MaD offers Cambodian communities assistance in
areas such as water, sanitation, housing, construction, sustainable
agriculture, healthcare, childcare, orphan care and education.

"The whole exhibition was amazing. The venue was amazing. It was so gothic, decadent and supportive to my obviously controversial artwork. I was also very honoured to have Lord Bath come to see my paintings. He was an amazing sweet, joyful and intelligent man. I am very much an admirer of his erotic art works and opinions. I was also invited to dinner after the show, where we enjoyed delicous wine and found out we had shared many of the same ideas and interests.

I was also blessed to have the reclusive Ken Hancock come out of hiding. He is the only British member of La Societe Nationale des Beaux Arts in Paris since Henry Moore in the 1950s. He is invited every year to exhibit one painting at the Grand Palais (Art en Capital) and the Paris Salon at the Carrousel du Louvre with the SNBA.

It was a fantastic crowd of people, I am sure you can imagine; castles, fine wines, candlelight and great conversation. A great time was had by all. I have never been so grateful for everyone's support."

About Penny.

Penny Griggs art work has been influenced by Marquess Alexander Tynne of Bath, Paula Rego, Sarah Lucas and Frida Karlo, to name but a few. Whether she is celebrated or notorious as an eccentric figurative painter, depending on your viewpoint, Penny Griggs wishes to challenge and expand people's views on sexuality, gay/lesbian love, whilst herself interrogating and exploring a polyamorous lifestyle. The artwork isn't just about sex. It is also, and this is its strength, a beautifully observed evocation of the lives of the unusual (or are they unusual?) inhabitants of a contemporary sexual era.

" It bewilders me, why the subject of sex in art is so taboo, or risque, or even considered erotic, whilst sex is an activity we all do . Without sex, humankind wouldn't exist. I don't get upset about my work being seen as porn or considered erotic. I just see my art as a landscape or documentary photograph. Without being a cliché- its just sex. "

Thornbury Castle was chosen as a location for the venue, as Penny wanted to take the context of the paintings away from the modern world and bring it back into a world where sex was not imbued with our sexual zeitgeist. Kings and queens have stayed there. Henry the Eighth had many of his six wife's stay there. Courtiers have flirted with ladies-in-waiting in the ancient yew-hedged gardens. Serving girls have chattered in the stone-flagged courtyard. Today, Thornbury Castle still resonates with history and is the only Tudor castle in England to be open as a hotel. The grand gothic halls, medieval features and historical background of the building were the perfect back drop to an explorative look at the human body and the decadent depiction of Dionysius type orgy's.

And what better guest to have than the eccentric Marquiss of Bath, in his colourful waistcoats and Pan-like smile. An aristocrat, quite at home in his fabulous Elizabethan Longleat Estate almost neighbouring the south Gloucestershire castle. An "A" list Celebrity in the Erotic Art world, his polyandrous lifestyle and "wifelets" and rumoured orgy's, could be a source of information and ideas for any erotic artist. An author, poet, musician and painter of the erotic arts himself, the Marquiss' many works can be viewed at the Longleat estate, most famously in the Kama Sutra Suite, which depicts 26 love scenes. It is rumoured that he is soon to publish a book with previously unseen erotic art work.
